Time goes cylindrical with the King Cobra Wristwatch

We’ve seen fancy wristwatches that are pretty cryptic about the way they display time, but here is one that is pretty straight forward to read while still looking very futuristic at the same time. But in the case of this watch, beauty is more than skin deep.

After 3 years of research, Urwerk, the fancy watchmaker company, has produced the King Cobra Wristwatch, a.k.a. the UR-CC1. The watch uses cylinders to tell the time in hours and minutes. But don’t be fooled into thinking this watch has a very simple operation and the cylinders rotate 360 degrees - oh no, that would be easy.

What makes this watch special is that the minute and hour cylinders only rotate about 300 degrees and thanks to a flat linear spring, the cylinders snap back to home position in just 1/10 of a second while still maintaining overall watch accuracy.

Sadly though, as cool as this watch looks and operates, this kind of fancy time piece will not be available to the average person. Even though there is no price mentioned for the King Cobra wristwatch, I have a strong suspicion that if you have to ask how much the UR-CC1 costs, chances are good that you can’t afford it.
